Happy August to all of our lovely patients.

I hope that we find you all well and enjoying the summer days, mind you as I write this the rain has come out to join the fun!  It is pouring down, good for the
garden though!

I wanted to share with you the pride that we are all feeling at Treetops Dental this week as 3 of our Clinicians were invited to present at a local ‘Dental Peer Review’ meeting and the feedback we have received has been nothing but amazing.  Our incredible general dentist Dr Amandeep Bhamber presented some cases where he has transformed a patient’s smile with cosmetic veneers.  Our dentist, Dr Vis Pather, who provides orthodontic solutions shared a case where he transformed a lady’s smile with the use of Invisalign Clear Aligners.  Lastly, our dentist Dr Sanjeev Ramrakha, who provides implant solutions shared a case of a single implant placement and an implant retained denture and this patient expressed gaining confidence in eating, smiling, speaking and presenting.  Dentistry really can change lives!

We are very lucky at Treetops to have such an experienced, skillful and caring team of clinicians that are not only respected by their Treetops colleagues, patients yet also by other dental professionals.

However, the well known saying ‘ The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” Is so true at Treetops.
Our clinicians are also supported by a team of qualified, experienced and professional nurses and a reception and managerial team who between them share well over a 100 years of experience.

Well done Amandeep, Vis and Sanjeev for representing Treetops Dental, we love having you part of the team.

I hope you all enjoy our newsletter and wish you a lovely August.

Best wishes

Can we all wish Treetops Nurse Kira and partner Brad, all our love and best wishes as they embark on this new chapter in their life, when they celebrate their wedding this month.
Here is to a long and happy life together, filled with love, laughter and good fortune.

Love from all of your colleagues and friends from the Treetops Team

Oral health is important for people of all ages. Although as we get older, the simple oral routines we had when we were younger, may no longer be enough as we age.

Among adults aged 75 and up, 1 in 4 have lost all natural teeth, largely because of gum disease and tooth decay, however tooth decay and gum disease doesn’t have to be a part of getting older.

The 2 most common oral health problems are tooth decay (cavities) and gum disease. Gum disease is more common when you are older but cavities can happen at any age, as long as you have natural teeth. Both are largely preventable with proper care.
Reduce your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease by brushing daily with fluoride toothpaste, flossing and using interdental brushes. Also visit your dentist and hygienist regularly for a clean and checkup.

Another common problem for older adults is dry mouth. Dry mouth occurs when you don’t have enough saliva to keep your mouth wet. The protective factors in saliva prevent cavities, gum disease, and fungal infections.

Dry mouth can be caused by medications; alcohol or tobacco; or medical conditions, such as poorly controlled diabetes. Dry mouth is usually treatable, so talk with your doctor or dentist if you’re having problems.

Older adults are also at increased risk for oral cancer. Symptoms include a sore, irritation, or lump in the mouth or throat that lasts more than two weeks; it may be painful or may cause numbness. It’s important to catch oral cancer early, because treatment works best before the disease has spread. Be on the lookout for any changes in your mouth, especially if you smoke or drink.

So to re-cap:
  • Drink fluoridated water and use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride protects against dental decay at all ages.
  • Floss, use interdental brushes and brush your teeth daily. (If you’re a caregiver for someone who can’t brush or floss his/her own teeth, you’ll need to help.)
  • Visit your dentist regularly, even if you have no natural teeth and have dentures.
  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol. They can raise the risk for oral and throat cancers.
  • If medicines lead to a dry mouth, ask your doctor if other drugs might be used instead. If dry mouth continues, drink plenty of water, chew sugarless gum, and avoid tobacco and alcohol.

Fantastic transformation!

We proudly share a few pictures of Dr Amit Pankhanias facial aesthetic solutions, on this occasion showing lip augmentation.

Our patient shared with us that they were unhappy with the thickness of her top lip, expressing that she would feel more confident if filler was applied to increase lip fullness and achieve a more symmetrical overall lip shape. She is also due to get married in August, and was keen to have the treatment in time for her special day. Following a consultation with Dr Pankhania, where he listened to her wants and needs and discussed with her the procedure and the potential results.  She was thrilled and we arranged an appointment for her the same week.

What are facial fillers?

Juverderm Filler is an injectable dermal filler with a base of hyaluronic acid. It is a cosmetic treatment that focuses on the face, specifically the cheeks, lips, and around the mouth. The procedure to inject the product takes 15 to 60 minutes. Often results are immediately noticeable however for a few days patients might find slight swelling to the treated area. Recovery time is minimal, however patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity, sun exposure, wearing makeup, and consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours post treatment.

Results typically last between six months and two years, and patients have the option to ‘top up’ the area if they wish following a consultation with Dr Pankhania.

Here is our patients feedback and her thoughts
on her Lip Augmentation with Dr Pankhania

‘I was very insecure about by top lip as it was very thin and disappeared when I smiled. I was very excited when Dr Pankhania started to do fillers at Treetops. I have previously had fillers elsewhere which as an experience on a whole was fine, but what made this experience stand out to me was that Dr Pankhania was able to give a local anaesthetic so I wasn’t able to feel anything at all. Having this as an option was a lot more comfortable than just having the numbing cream as most places do. Before treatment we had a long chat about the outcome that I wanted and what he would be able to achieve on the first treatment. Dr Pankhania kept making sure I was happy with what he was doing as we were going along. He asked my option throughout he didn’t just do what he thought was best, he wanted to make sure I was happy with the final outcome. I would highly recommend Dr Pankhania to anyone who wishes to have Lip fillers, I absolutely love the final outcome.’

Hello Everyone!

My full name is Dr. Viswanathan Pather but everyone calls me Vis (Viswanathan is a mouthful!).

I work at Treetops doing mostly orthodontic solutions on both adults and children. I do this using fixed metal and fixed ceramic braces and Invisalign clear aligners..  I have been providing orthodontics for 15 years and I also have an advanced certificate in restorative and aesthetic dentistry. The benefits of this will be discussed shortly.

In my blog I will discuss my work with adults and discuss the challenges with orthodontics for these patients.

Adults teeth generally move at a slower pace. It is a common misconception that there is an age limit to orthodontics, that you can be ‘too old’. Yes, your teeth might move a little slower but I have already treated people successfully in their seventies. I sometimes have people as young as 30 who were under the impression that they are too old, which absolutely is not the case.  The main issue with being eligible to have orthodontics is the health of the teeth and its supporting structures, however even in these cases correction can be treated through other means, then revisit orthodontics to achieve the final result.

One of the issues in adult teeth is that malalignment of teeth can lead to uneven wear on the teeth surfaces. Therefore it is not uncommon for adults to require some form of restorative work after orthodontic treatment to get the smile to be at its best. In that scenario you would benefit from my experience in both fields.

This can be anything from minor work like composite bonding to veneers and crowns. The fantastic truth is that there is so much we can do these days with orthodontics and dentistry that it is too much to list in a small blog!

I feel that a picture says a thousand words of what can be achieved in adult orthodontics, so see below for yourself!

Treated with ceramic braces, whitening and composite bonding.
Treated with Invisalign, whitening Bonding and Emax veneers.
I do hope you have enjoyed my blog!

If you are considering Invisalign or feel that orthodontics is something you would like to explore. Then please do call us on 01902 842 555 and book a consultation with me and we will discuss your individualised plan.

Best wishes and happy August!
