We hope you are all keeping well and safely enjoying meeting up with friends and family again.
We have recently been asked a few recurring questions from patients and we felt it prudent to share these with you:
Has your Covid Patient Journey changed due to the relaxing of restrictions? No – even though our freedom is increasing and there is a strong bright light at the end of the tunnel, our Covid safety procedures will remain unchanged.
Our waiting rooms remain closed Checking in for your appointment remains via phone from the carpark The wearing of masks within the practice premises is still required Personal belongings are still not permitted into the surgeries
If you have been abroad (even if it is classed as a ‘Green List ‘ country) we ask all patients not to attend the practice until they have been back in the UK for 2 weeks.
Please be assured that yours and our team’s safety are at the forefront of all we do. We really do appreciate how you have all supported our safety procedures and when our procedures change we will let you know.
We have read some concerning press reports over the past few weeks that patients are struggling to find a new dental practice, even on a private basis . Can we still recommend our friends and family to Treetops Dental? Yes please, we would be delighted to see and treat your friends and family. We agree the news reports are very concerning yet we would like to reassure you that Treetops are accepting new private patients. Our waiting time for new patient appointments is approximately 3-4 weeks and we do have a ‘standby’ list so there is always the possibility of an even earlier appointment.
Great news – Increase in Hygienist appointments We are now in the fortunate position to increase our hygienist availability. Chanel will now be available every Wednesday and Friday and we also welcome a new hygienist to the Treetops family; Alison will be working on a Monday and will be joining us at the end of June.
Please call us for a Hygiene visit.
Outstanding Examinations If you are overdue for an examination please do call the practice and we will be delighted to arrange this for you.
I hope that you enjoy our newsletter and wish you a lovely sunny June.
Name – Dr Peter Reece
Job Title – Dentist
How long have you worked at Treetops? I joined the team in October 2017
Tell us about yourself! I grew up in South Wales Pontypool, I was educated at a local Grammar School called West Monmouth or in welsh Ysgol Gorllewin Mynwy. I trained in Cardiff at WNSMD for my BDS and at Birmingham for MSc. I ended up in the Midlands after working in London, Plymouth and Leicester then going on to join a study group in which the principle practice was in North Birmingham, where I met my wife, we eventually settled in Burton where we started our own practice.
What made you decide on Dentistry as a career? I have always been fascinated by how the human body works, and due to circumstances and life at the time, I failed to achieve the qualifications required for medicine so I decided dentistry would be equally as fulfilling. Thankfully my choice paid off and it has been my career for many years.
Tell us two personal qualities you have which makes you a good dentist? A passion for Arts and the Science of Dentistry and above all a genuine love of people.
What is the best thing about your job? Having the freedom to be in control of your own decisions as well as the satisfaction of seeing a patient through difficult treatments and seeing them happy with the end result.
What is the most challenging thing about your job? Sometimes people have their own ideas of treatments that have been ingrained over many years, sometimes it is a challenge to convince them that dentistry has advanced considerably, and the old ways are not always the best.
Do you have any hobbies? I play the piano and still have lessons, I used to play a lot of sport especially squash, but I don’t seem to have a lot of time to play these days.
What is the most memorable treatment you have worked on? A chap from Burton who waited 18 months to allow me to complete a series of courses which enabled me to rebuild his mouth. I still see him now after 20 years, even though he moved to North Wales. There are many others along the way which have all been memorable in some way or another.
Thank you Peter!
Denture Case File
Presenting problem Our patient presented with old worn down, ill fitting dentures. They were uncomfortable to wear, dropped down when talking, were stained and affected his eating and appearance. Also, you might notice on the bottom right there is a small hole, this caused continuous food trapping. There is also no lip support which makes the patient’s lips look thinner from the outside than they naturally were.
Solution sourced Following consultations between Amit and our lab technician; Steve, a set of new dentures were specifically and expertly constructed. The patient now has more lip definition and facial symmetry than before. His smile is now a lot more natural looking and symmetrical. They are a great fit and are fully functional when eating and speaking.
Why dentures change As we age, the structure of our mouth changes, therefore a denture that fitted well previously may begin to become loose, embarrassingly drop down mid conversation, affect your enjoyment of eating and change the look of your facial features. If you are unhappy or feel your dentures may not be fitting correctly, do not suffer in silence, there are solutions.
At Treetops, we would look at options such as relining current dentures or “tweak” them so they are a better fit or we could look at a completely new set of dentures. A more advanced option is to consider retaining your dentures with Dental Implants, this means that your dentures are fixed into place permanently, allowing you to laugh, eat and speak without worrying what your dentures are doing.
Accepting ill fitting dentures is no longer your only option, please call to arrange a consultation if you would like to know what the best solutions are for you.
Many Thanks to:
Clinician Amit Pankhania, Nurse Emma Middleton and Laboratory Technician Steve
Enlighten Teeth Whitening
Recently we have received a lot of enquiries from patients interested in Enlighten teeth whitening. Enlighten is a well known and respected product, their materials have been safely and successfully used in dentistry for over 100 years and we are delighted to provide this for our patients.
Below are a few of the most commonly asked whitening questions:
Why do my teeth look discoloured? Teeth naturally yellow with age and to add to this, drinking tea, coffee, smoking and other staining agents can all speed up this process. Lots of people become extremely self-conscious of this natural discolouration, so be assured you are not alone. Teeth whitening is the most requested dental procedure for patients between the age of 18-60 years!
How does Teeth Whitening work? The whitening technique removes the staining agent that has penetrated deep within the tooth leaving you with a whiter, brighter smile which you are happier to share!
Does Teeth Whitening last? Amazingly, the effects of teeth whitening can last up to 3 years. However, over time and with the staining agents within our diets the effect can be reduced sooner. The great news is, you have your bespoke trays and can therefore ‘top’ up at any time! (All you need to do is to contact your clinician to purchase further whitening syringes.)
Be assured, teeth whitening provided by a registered General Dental Clinician is the safest and most cost-effective way of enhancing the appearance of your smile.
Enlighten – Our Advanced Option Enlighten teeth whitening treatment is considered one of the most effective advanced teeth whitening systems available. There is a B1 guarantee for your results which has been evident in 98% of cases. Shade B1 is the whitest naturally occurring shade currently available in the market.
Fully inclusive fee £780 (includes desensitising toothpaste, whitening trays, a case, 2 home whitening syringes & 40 minute in chair session with your clinician and a B2 guarantee! )
We Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, It means the world that our patients think so highly of us, and also take the time out of their busy day to let us know we are appreciated.
